When we leave for the big cities we tend to forget the trades and customs of our ancestors. Not everybody now knows how honey is produced, or how cows are milked, and not all have heard old dialect of local residents. Therefore, we invite you to visit the real farms of Dzūkija to see how locals make cheese, prepare honey, dance folk dances, and play old games.
A lot of brilliant workshops are organised by the Sūrūs vėjai agency. Local traditional trades, ie. candle dipping, drawing on eggs with wax, making straw decorations etc are to be found within the Menų kalvė craft center. During the Sūri pamoka (‘Salty Lesson’) you can make souvenirs from salt. In Romnesa restaurant groups can bake a traditional šakotis tree cake.
