Druskininkai proudly carries the title of Lithuania’s oldest resort, and yet its heart pulses with youthful energy. No wonder, then, that this vibrant, welcoming city’s streets are teeming with young people. Every year, Druskininkai is visited by scores of young families, who love not only the marvellous refuge of nature and the wide variety of wellness and recreational services the city offers but also the wealth of activities they can immerse themselves in.
Peace of mind over the little ones
The reputation of Druskininkai as Lithuania’s most family-friendly holiday destination is also reinforced by a recent survey conducted by the national tourism development agency Lithuania Travel. The survey showed that Druskininkai is the most prepared resort city for families with kids and always has something new to offer them.
This summer, Druskininkai has introduced a new childcare service for families. So, should the grown-ups wish to enjoy SPA or wellness procedures, or need to do a bit of work during the holiday, they can entrust their kids to professionals who will keep them safe and sound and engaged in stimulating activities.
The services are available Monday through Friday in the entertainment park for kids – named “O kas čia?” (“And what’s that?”). The service costs 10 to 18 euros, depending on the preferences. Parents are advised to book the services in advance.
And if the family is looking to do something together, a wealth of choices awaits!
From summer to winter and then back again
As many are already well aware, the perfect leisure spot for both parents and children is the renowned Druskininkai Aquapark. This kingdom of fun is guaranteed to create exciting experiences all around.
The little ones will enjoy the steam room designed specifically for children, water slides, the swimming pool filled with water with mineralisation – similar to that of the Baltic Sea – and even some feet-tickling sand. Swimming pools and water parks for children are also readily available at other sanatoriums and wellness and leisure complexes of Druskininkai.
Those seeking winter fun can easily transport themselves into the cold season. One means of doing so is the famous Cableway, taking you to the Snow Arena directly from the Aquapark. This is an eco-friendly mode of transport, stretching above the pines and letting you admire the breathtaking landscape of Druskininkai from a bird’s eye view.
The best thing about the Snow Arena is that it has something for both the youngest and the oldest family members, with the Snow Kart karting track right next to it, where the little ones can rev up the fun, too.
Plenty to see, experience, and explore
Druskininkai also offers an abundance of exciting activities for children of all ages and adults alike.
The little ones are always welcome at the “O kas čia?” family entertainment park. Everyone will find something fun to do here, from the White Canyon and the Pirate Island to a climbing spot and an oasis of peace.
Those interested in learning something new can visit Girios Aidas, a forest museum. This is an excellent spot to get to know the birds, insects, animals, and nature of Dzūkija and play some interactive games. The museum also hosts a variety of exhibitions featuring ceramics, amber artworks, wood carvings, and many more.
Another sanctuary of knowledge and curiosities is the Druskininkai City Museum, inviting families to immerse themselves in the unique history of the resort through its dedicated exhibition. Here, groups of five visitors can also participate in engaging educational activities. When visiting the museum located at Villa Linksma, be sure to climb up the stairs to its tower to admire the awe-inspiring panorama of Druskininkai.
Childhood thrills in trees
Another point of attraction is the crafts centre Menų Kalvė, a comprehensive creative space where visitors can participate in creative and educational activities, enjoy artists’ exhibitions, and buy some artistic works.
An additional fun and educational activity awaits visitors at the creative studio Druskos Studija (or “Salt Studio”). Here, kids will learn about the city’s history, get to taste the special salt of Druskininkai, make sculptures of salt, and craft a souvenir to take home.
Did you know there’s a place at the resort where you can also walk on the ceiling? So, if you’re curious about how the world looks upside down, be sure to pop into the Upside-down House Druskininkai.
Lovers of active leisure can venture to Uno Adventure Park to tackle its family-friendly treetop course, complete with various obstacles, to conquer their fears and experience the thrill of high-altitude adventures.
For even more unforgettable moments, kids can participate in one of the many summer camps hosted in Druskininkai, offering plenty of physical activities, engaging entertainment, and opportunities for creative endeavours.
Routes to new discoveries
Of course, one of the most popular ways to explore Druskininkai with the whole family is to go sightseeing. You can, for example, hop on the Sightseeing Train for a fun educational tour, which will take you to the city’s top attractions. If you prefer relaxed walks at your own pace, however, you’ll love our special Attractions Map with a carefully planned route designed to keep little feet from getting tired.
This park-rich resort is a rejuvenating haven not only for those who love walking. Druskininkai and its surrounding areas boast over 60 kilometres of cycling routes, inviting cyclists and scooter riders alike to revel in the region’s stunning natural scenery and visit its main attractions.
Along the way, not many can resist making a stop at the Karolis Dineika Wellness Park or Vijūnėlė Park, with their fun playgrounds, swings, slides, trampolines, and more. Visitors will also find beach volleyball and basketball courts, as well as ping-pong tables, for more active leisure.
At one of the many rental points, you can easily rent bicycles or velomobiles to fit the whole family. All that remains is to pick the best route for you and embark on a journey of delightful discoveries and experiences.
