Wooden villas of breathtaking beauty are still a living feature of Druskininkai. Wandering through the streets of the resort, old buildings pop up here and there, testifying not only to the evolution of the town’s architecture, but also to vivid fragments of its history. The architecture of Druskininkai, which came under Polish rule between the wars, was influenced by the Swiss style, while the resort’s wooden houses are also influenced by the style of the builders of Zakopane. Most of the wooden villas have been restored and today not only decorate the town, but are also open to guests, with some now offering apartments for rent.
