Druskininkai Old Healing Rooms (Vilniaus al. 7)

In 1837, the Russian Tsar gave permission for the development of a health resort in Druskininkai, although mineral and mud baths had been operating unofficially since the early 19th century. In 1838, a 14-bath spa was built, which was extended to 50 beds in 1840-1841. This spa was destroyed by fire in 1894. The fire was followed by the construction of an even larger brick balneological spa with 150 beds in 1896, which was probably the first brick building in Druskininkai at that time. The building was designed by the famous architect Vaclovas Michnevičius, who also designed the Vilnius Halė Market, the residential complex near Lukiškės Square in Vilnius, the “Montvilos Colony” and other buildings. The architectural proportions of the building have remained unchanged until today. The medical centres, which date back to the time of the Tsar, were reconstructed in accordance with strict requirements, restoring the old style of the medical centres. The reconstructed building is currently used as accommodation.
