The sculpture ‘Sūrutis’
In the centre of Druskininkai, in the square between the church and the town museum, a sculpture entitled ‘Sūrutis’ has been unveiled, symbolising the legend of the resort’s origins. It was created by Romualdas Inčirauskas, one of Lithuania’s most renowned metal artists. ‘Sūrutis’ depicts a standing man, 180 cm tall, holding a bowl of salt in his left hand. In the palm of his right hand, he holds a small horse – according to legend, the first patient to be cured, who was sent to wade through the mineral water marsh – the owner thought the animal would meet its end there,
but it miraculously recovered.
