The Source of Beauty

The Source of Beauty

The Spring of Beauty – the saltiest and deepest spring in Druskininkai, renowned for its skin-purifying and rejuvenating properties. The spring, which flows from a stone bas-relief near the Nemunas River, is over 300 metres deep. The spring water is extremely salty and is not recommended for drinking. You can use the water to wash your face and hands, or to gargle. It is believed to rejuvenate the skin, bestowing beauty and vigour. Legend has it that in ancient times, a duke, whilst hunting with his courtiers, happened upon this spot by chance. The hunt was successful, so the duke was obliged to shoot a falcon. Pierced by the archer’s well-aimed arrows, the falcon fell into the Nemunas, and the duke rushed into the water to retrieve it. The duchess, standing on the bank, wept bitterly and ran along the riverbank, shedding salty tears and calling out for her husband. After a while, the duke emerged from the water with the falcon in his hands – safe and sound. According to legend, salty springs gushed from the ground in the very spots where the duchess’s tears had fallen.
