Jacques Lipschitz (1891–1973) – a sculptor of Lithuanian Jewish origin and a prominent representative of Cubism, who lived and worked in France, the USA, Israel and Italy. Jacques Lipschitz was born on 22 August 1891 in Druskininkai. He attended the local Jewish school, then the Commercial School in Białystok and the Vilnius Gymnasium. From 1906 to 1909, he studied engineering. He devoted most of his attention to art studies at the Vilnius School of Drawing. In 1909, he left for Paris to study art.In 1911–1912, Jacques Lipschitz had not yet embraced Cubism, but by 1913–1914, marked creative innovations were already evident, efforts to understand and absorb the manifestations of Cubist style. In 1915, Jacques Lipschitz joined the ranks of the true Cubists, alongside such luminaries of the art world as Picasso, Braque, Gris, Léger and Laurens.

The Jacques Lipschitz Memorial Museum
This compact and cosy wooden house dates back to the first half of the 20th century. It was built for Dr Jozef Markevičius. After the Second World War, the Markevičius family’s villa was converted into a children’s clinic, and in 1971 the building underwent a major refurbishment, after which a children’s library was established there. The building’s purpose changed once again in 1996. The former residential house has now been converted into a museum named after the world-renowned sculptor.

Sculpture Park in Memory of Jacques Lipschitz
Jacques Lipschitz – one of the most famous artists to have lived in Lithuania, a prominent representative of the Cubist movement. Born in Druskininkai in 1891 into a Litvak family, he remains better known internationally than in Lithuania. The entire exhibition at the Jacques Lipschitz Sculpture Park was created during symposia named in his honour.
