Walking trail: Forest trail – Dzūkija

The ‘Forest Trail’ is part of the E11 European long-distance walking route in the Baltic States, running through the most beautiful forests and national parks of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.

We invite you to try the 54th section of the long-distance walking route MIŠKO TAKAS: Didžiasalis – Druskininkai – Žiogeliai.

Between the village of Didžiasalis and the resort of Druskininkai, the Miško Takas winds its way through coniferous forests, which are abundant in berries and mushrooms. Just before Druskininkai, the Miško Takas merges with Nemuno Kelias, circles the Druskininkai Snow Arena and continues along the footpath and cycle path to the Park Bridge over the River Nemunas. After crossing the bridge, the Forest Trail continues along Maironio Street and then winds through the narrow streets of the historic resort town of Druskininkai and along the park paths, crossing the Ratnyčia stream and the forest park on the right bank of the Nemunas. Beyond Veisiejų Street, the route follows the pavement along Neravų Street and, after about 1 km, turns left onto Sodžiaus Street, which, at the end of the village of Neravai, becomes a lovely forest path. This is where Dzūkija National Park begins. The forest trail circles the village of Viečiūnai, offering walkers a beautiful view of Liškiava Monastery on the opposite bank of the Nemunas. The Forest Trail leads along a beautiful, peaceful forest path all the way to the village of Žiogeliai.

The route can be split into two sections, with an overnight stay in Druskininkai. It is worth setting aside a day to explore this town and take a boat trip down the Nemunas to Liškiava. You can travel by cable car from the Snow Arena to the Druskininkai Water Park (Maironio Street), thereby shortening the distance by two kilometres.
