Historically the oldest walking place in Druskininkai. The historian A. Kirkoras (1818 – 1886), a contemporary of the park’s creation, describes the place as follows:
“At that time Druskininkai was a remote village with a few shanties. For the sick, who could hardly find shelter, water was brought in buckets and heated at home. A few years later, Druskininkai changed. <…> A beautiful park has been established on the banks of the Nemunas, near Ratnyčia. There are baths for those who bathe here, the necessary buildings, a gallery for those who have a rest in bad weather, a station. An orchestra from Vilnius used to play. A theatre was built. <…> The number of sick people has been increasing year by year, but now it is not only the sick who go to Druskininkai. It is hard to find a better place for a summer holiday. “*
Nowadays, the banks of the Nemunas are also full of holidaymakers. There is a mineral water buffet, a musical fountain, cafés and restaurants. The park is fun to walk, cycle or ride electric scooters. Nearby marinas offer catamaran or steamboat excursions. The park’s flower gardens are in constant bloom, starting with the hundreds of tulips that decorate the park in early May. Just before the end of the year, the park displays a unique Christmas tree park.
