Ratnytsia Church

In 1650, Kazimieras Leonas Sapiega built a church in Ratnyčia, which belonged to the Merkinė branch. In 1676 Mykolas Pacas built another church. Both of these churches have not survived. In 1762, a wooden church was built again and in 1910 it was moved to Kabeli.

In 1910, thanks to the care of the priest Pranciškis Bernotas and the donations of parishioners and benefactors, a spacious Lithuanian neo-Gothic brick church was built and named after St. Apostle Baltramiejs. M. K. Čiurlionis’s father, Konstantinas Čiurlionis, used to play the organ in the Ratnyčia church. Nowadays, the Ratnyčia parish unites thirteen villages and two districts of the town of Druskininkai: Kalviškes and Ratnyčia.

Jonas Čečiota, a Lithuanian public figure, poet and collector of folklore, was buried in the cemetery near the church in 1847.
