In Europe’s Top 10 of best resorts

‘Druskininkai really belongs in Europe’s top ten resorts. It is really nice to witness so many people here speaking or at least understanding Polish. In the town there are a good many luxury hotels and sanatoriums, and you are better off leaving the car in the Old Town and going for a walk. The resort cuts through forests in which grow coniferous and deciduous trees. If it’s sunny, it is wonderful here.’ A guest from Poland.

Druskininkai is Lithuania‘s most beloved spa resort town. Its relaxing atmosphere permeates all hotels, restaurants, cafés, and activities, making it the ultimate escape for both local and international visitors.

Karolis Mieliauskas is on the World’s Coldest Bike Ride, from Lithuania to Oymyakon in Russia, the coolest habitable place on earth. “One of the [reasons to take this challenge] was to experience the cold and actually to make an experiment with myself; I [wanted to see] how the mind reacts to the cold and what kind of signal it gives to the body,” the adventurer tells Gulf News over the phone from his hometown in Druskininkai, Lithuania.

I first heard of Druskininkai, Lithuania from my friends from Belarus. This Lithuania spa town sits fairly close to the Belarussian and Polish borders and is situated along the Nemunas River, Lithuania’s largest river, which also passes through Kaunas.

While Druskininkai may be known for its spa and mineral properties the same way Lithuania is known for being a nation of basketball lovers, the reason I had actually first heard about this town of around 13,000 residents is because of their snow arena. My friends were all heading up there to go snowboarding inside of the Druskininkai Snow Arena, home to one of Europe’s biggest indoor skiing slopes.

Druskininkai is a Lithuanian spa town located next to the Polish and Belarusian borders. Picturesque Russian wooden constructions, square Polish buildings and baroque-style Lithuanian structures are mixed together and surrounded by parks, creating an atypical and charming scenery. But Druskininkai has more to offer, especially for those who are looking for fulfilling and adventurous experiences: skiing or snowboarding at the Snow Arena and getting relaxed/having fun at “Druskininkai Recreation and Health Centre Aqua.”
