Summer in Druskininkai is always the perfect time for a holiday

2025.07.14
Many people associate the warm season with relaxing by the sea, but the Lithuanian summer is not always blessed with great weather, and the harsh Baltic Sea doesn’t often tempt you to jump into the waves. However, Druskininkai can guarantee the most enjoyable and enriching holidays every day and in any weather. Today, the country’s oldest resort is not only famous for its centuries-old health traditions. Here are the top 10 reasons to come to Druskininkai.

The power of mineral waters

Druskininkai, which has the largest number of health centres in Lithuania, bottles almost 33 million litres of mineral water per year. It not only fills baths and swimming pools, steams in saunas, gushes from fountains and cascades, but also slides down ski slopes in snowdrifts. Druskininkai’s saltiest water – one litre of which is enriched with as much as 56 g of minerals – gushes from the open source of Beauty. Druskininkai Rasa, Akvilė, Uniqa and Hermis mineral waters are also known to many in Lithuania.

A range of wellness treatments

More than 1,350 different treatments are available in the nine spas and various spa centres in Druskininkai. This includes traditional therapeutic programmes as well as modern wellness and diagnostic techniques. And those with only a few days to spend are welcome in the resort’s various spa complexes. Guests can enjoy thermal massages with jade stones, weightlessness therapy, thermal hand masks or various other treatments.

From snow in summer to the tropics in winter

Druskininkai offers rich entertainment for the whole family at any time of the year. Even in the chilly winter months, you can feel like you’re in a southern resort – the air temperature in the Aqua Park is always 30-31 degrees, while the pool water is 26-27 degrees. In the height of summer, you won’t need a magic wand if you miss winter – just open the doors of the Snow Arena, where the average temperature ranges from 2 to 4 degrees below zero, and where advanced technology supplies the ski slopes with fresh snow free of chemical additives.

The joy of being active

Druskininkai offers a wide range of leisure activities that encourage you to get outdoors as much as possible. Around 60 km of the resort’s cycling routes stretch along the city’s paths, the banks of the Nemunas River and lakes. In addition to bicycles, you can also try out electric scooters and velomobiles. Active leisure enthusiasts in Druskininkai will also find tennis courts, volleyball, basketball, football and beach tennis courts and a golf course, while fans of extreme experiences are welcome at the UNO Adventure Park.

The spirit of M. K. Čiurlionis alive

Druskininkai is steeped in the legacy of the brilliant Lithuanian composer and painter Mikolas Konstantinas Čiurlionis. For the second decade now, the resort has been hosting not only the international arts festival “Druskininkai Summer with M.K. Čiurlionis” to explore and promote the artist’s work, but also reproductions of his paintings adorn the city’s parks and alleys. The Čiurlionis family grave can be visited in the old Druskininkai cemetery, and the M. K. Čiurlionis Memorial Museum invites you to visit the home of the artist’s parents.

Clean air, and in some places even cleaner than in the mountains

Although Druskininkai is popular for its winding healing springs, the resort’s weather is also special. With no industry or other sources of pollution, the pine forests surrounding the town are good at purifying the air and saturating it with essential oils. For even better breathing conditions, it is worth visiting the K. Dineika Wellness Park and its ionisation pavilion. The latter is special because it offers even cleaner air, saturated with negative ions, which are almost 100 times more concentrated in this pavilion than in the mountains.

A wonderful romantic getaway

Druskininkai is the ideal place for an engagement, wedding or just a romantic evening. Stroll under the stars, dine by candlelight, enjoy massages for two and other rituals that pamper your body and soul… For the perfect time with your loved one, Druskininkai’s hotels and spas are sure to be full of ideas. So don’t doubt it: you don’t have to wait for Valentine’s Day or any other special occasion to give your other half a romantic time.

Celebrations, fairs, festivals

The summer season opens with a town festival, with concerts, exhibitions and a laser, fireworks and fire show on the shores of Lake Druskonis. In August, the traditional folklore festival of the Dainava region takes place, and dog breeders and lovers meet in Druskininkai for the International Dog Show. The Gourmet Cheese Festival invites visitors to enjoy themselves during Žolina, and Tourism Days are announced at the end of September. The outdoor cinema in the centre of Druskininkai, in the Pramogų Square, has become an inseparable tradition.

Gastronomic discovery routes

Druskininkai is deservedly proud of its varied cuisine – the resort’s catering establishments offer everything from traditional folk dishes to the most sumptuous haute cuisine. So you can discover the world’s most exotic flavours: enjoy Samarkand pancakes, Norwegian fork, seafood or even nettle ice cream. Meanwhile, for the freshest organic produce in the mornings, visit the Druskininkai Market, a favourite with locals and visitors alike.

The charm and authenticity of old villas

Wandering through the resort’s streets, you’ll be delighted by the beautiful wooden villas popping up here and there. Druskininkai, which came under Polish rule in the first half of the 20th century, was influenced by the Swiss style, and later on, wooden house builders adopted the Zakopane architectural style. Most of these villas have been restored and are not only successfully decorating the resort and delighting the eye, but also welcoming visitors, some of them nowadays operating as hotels or private apartments for rent.
