Legend has it that the valley was once home to the rich town of Raigardas, whose inhabitants were constantly feasting, celebrating too much and thus angering Thunder. As a result of their behavior, the city collapsed and fluttered, and ever since, the bells of the cursed have ringed on the earth as they seek their way out of the underworld. That exit is closed by the Devil’s Stone at the edge of the valley, near Svendubre. The salt waters of Druskininkai are the tears of the condemned.
