From 17 to 19 July, Druskininkai will become a hub where Lithuanian culinary traditions, creative chefs and one of Lithuania’s favourite snacks – toasted bread – come together. To mark International Brewers’ Day, the resort is organising the ‘Toasted Bread Festival’ for the first time – an event unlike any other in Lithuania, inviting visitors to discover the town through its flavours.

Druskininkai has been one of Lithuania’s most popular resorts for many years. People come here in search of peace and quiet, nature, mineral waters, spa treatments and quality time spent with family or friends. It’s worth remembering that a proper holiday goes hand in hand with delicious, high-quality food.

The town is home to a host of restaurants, cafés and bars, where chefs delight guests with creative dishes, seasonal menus and unique flavours. More and more people are coming to the resort not only to relax, but also to discover new culinary experiences. It is precisely this trend that gave rise to the idea of the ‘Toasted Bread Festival’ – an event that invites visitors to discover Druskininkai through its flavours.

The whole town is transformed into one huge gastronomic space

The ‘Toasted Bread Festival’ is not a traditional town festival with a single stage or a single market area. During the festival, the whole town will become a route brimming with delicious experiences. The restaurants, cafés and bars taking part in the festival will prepare unique snacks and menus especially for the occasion, which guests can sample as they move from one venue to another.  All the stops will be marked on the festival map, allowing everyone to plan their own route and discover both their favourite spots and places in Druskininkai they haven’t yet visited. This is not just a culinary journey, but also an opportunity to rediscover the resort – its restaurants, streets, terraces and cosy atmosphere.

More than just toasted bread

Although toasted bread is the festival’s symbol, the organisers encourage visitors to view this Lithuanian snack from a broader perspective. During the festival, the city’s chefs will compete in four categories: ‘Golden Crust’, ‘Meat Masters’, ‘Not Fish, but Gold’ and ‘Chef’s Challenge: Modern Deconstruction’. Guests can look forward not only to classic toasted bread, but also to a variety of meat-based snacks, seafood dishes, unexpected vegetarian interpretations, and creative experiments by the chefs.  The aim of the festival is to show that even the simplest Lithuanian snack can be a source of inspiration for original culinary discoveries.

The winners will be chosen by the guests themselves

At each festival venue, guests will be able to sample special menus and, by scanning a QR code, cast their vote for the dish they liked best. At the end of the festival, the restaurants that have won the most favour with visitors, along with the appetisers they have prepared, will be announced. The main judges of this festival will not be a panel, but the guests themselves.

Lithuanians have one gastronomic rule that almost no one questions: the best conversations take place around a table laden with delicious snacks.
