The traditional Tourism Days in Druskininkai, which attract thousands of holidaymakers, adventure-seekers, foodies, music and art, who wish to try new experiences, indulge in spa treatments and experience the resort in a different light, will this year, on the last weekend of September, be treated to a unique route featuring light installations.

“Tourism Days offer the chance to experience different sides of Druskininkai in a single weekend. This year, we invite you to go on guided tours, discover the resort’s history and art, sample local flavours, take time to relax, and, once darkness falls, witness the ‘Stories of Water’ sound and light installation by the Lake Druskonis. The programme involves tour guides, cultural institutions and tourism businesses, so every visitor can create their own interesting itinerary. “I invite you to come to Druskininkai from 25 to 27 September and experience for yourselves just how many different experiences a single resort has to offer,” – says Vaiva Gražulytė, Head of the Tourism, Communication and Culture Department at the Druskininkai Municipal Administration.

A path illuminated by magical laser beams

This year’s unique experience will let you discover what happens in Druskininkai after dark. The resort, born of springs, invites you to see its waters, walking trails and all its attractions in a new light – through a spectacular synthesis of light, nature and music, as you follow a route featuring 11 unique light installations. The path leading from the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Scapular in Druskininkai around the lake will be illuminated by magical laser beams.

Dynamic, colour-shifting laser beams will transform the church into a pulsating composition of light, giving the building an unexpected appearance. The square in front of the Druskininkai Town Museum will become a tunnel of light, music and movement, inviting visitors to plunge into the depths. On the lawn of Vijūnėlė Park, cosmic forces, vibrating tension and collapse effects will unfold. Thousands of laser dots will constantly flash, flow or spin across trees, paths and walls, whilst a beam of light from the fountain on Lake Druskonis will shoot up towards the sky like an arrow.

Rūta Barkauskienė, Deputy Director of the Druskininkai Cultural Centre, notes: “The Tourism Days light installations have already become a lovely tradition – people look forward to them, and every year we enjoy finding new ways to surprise visitors in familiar parts of the town. We’d like the residents of Druskininkai and visitors not only to come and see the installations, but also to set off on a journey through the town – to pop into exhibitions, concerts and events, and to discover cultural venues. Tourism Days are the perfect time for this, as over the course of a single weekend, you can experience Druskininkai from so many different angles.”

A special programme for music lovers

The magic created by lasers will be continued by the audiovisual performance ‘Čiurlionis’ Dreams’ by Adas Gecevičius and Vytautas Žarnauskas. Here, the works of M. K. Čiurlionis will come to life through contemporary video projections and live music. “Free jazz drums, electronics and video projection technology will create a mesmerising experience in which the stage becomes nature and the trees of Druskininkai – a living canvas,” – says A. Gecevičius, a Druskininkai-born drummer, producer and composer, introducing this unique performance.

Music lovers attending the Tourism Days are in for another special treat – a concert by pianists Sonata and Rokas Zubovas, featuring works by M. K. Čiurlionis and Japanese composers Seitaro Shibaka, Sawako Tamaru and Toyono Suzuki. The musical programme will be complemented by a visual narrative featuring works by M. K. Čiurlionis and the renowned Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai.

From Jacques Lipchitz to Pablo Picasso

During the Tourism Days, light will shine not only through installations, video and audio projections, but also in the galleries, museums and other art spaces that will be welcoming visitors. For art connoisseurs, the Druskininkai Town Museum and the Jacques Lipchitz Museum – which opened its doors this year – are hosting no fewer than two exhibitions dedicated to the world-renowned Litvak sculptor Jacques Lipchitz, which showcase not only sculptures by the Druskininkai-born artist, but also works by artists such as Pablo Picasso, Amedeo Modigliani, Georges Rouault and others.

Poetry lovers can look forward to the event ‘Reading of Two Poems – another poet’s favourite poem and one’s own’ as part of the international poetry festival ‘Poetic Autumn in Druskininkai’ at the V. K. Jonynas Gallery.

Meanwhile, the Druskininkai Arts Centre ‘Menų kalvė’ invites you to recall a special chapter in the town’s cultural history – the open-air painting workshops held at the “Regina”, and the works created there, inspired by the resort’s wooden architecture, nature and the autumnal atmosphere. The exhibition ‘Reflections of Surrealism’ features paintings by Svajūnas Armonas, Arvydas Bagdžius, Silvija Drebickaitė, Danutė Gražienė, Bronius Gražys, Andrius Mosiejus, Vytautas Poška, Jolanta Sniežko, Vytautas Tomaševičius and Aleksandras Vozbinas. A meeting with the exhibition organisers and artists will take place during the Tourism Days.

Exclusive spa offers, tours and workshops

As every year during Tourism Days, wellness centres and hotels will be offering special deals or inviting guests to try various treatments free of charge, whilst restaurants have prepared special menus and tastings.

In addition, the traditional Tourism Days fair will take place, and there will be plenty of excursions, creative workshops and educational activities. For example, you’ll be able to learn about the beer-making process, visit the laboratory of the Lithuanian Assay Office, take a guided tour to explore SNOW ARENA up close, and unleash your creativity in the jewellery, leatherwork, decoupage or floristry workshops organised by ‘Menų kalvė’.

From 25 to 27 September, every corner of Druskininkai will be filled with exceptional events. Both young and old residents and visitors to the resort will be able to experience the resort through light installations, music and poetry, as well as on guided tours and through creative activities.
