TOP5 attractions in Druskininkai
Druskininkai, Lithuania’s oldest and largest spa town, invites visitors to discover its uniqueness and beauty through five unique places that are unique to the town. These places reveal the charms of Druskininkai, both in its historical sites and its modern attractions, which will captivate every visitor.
Ropeway
The only one of its kind in Lithuania, the “Rope Route” connects two of the resort’s most popular spots: the Aquapark, where the tropical climate is always delightful, and the entertainment complexSnow Arena, where winter always reigns. The 45-metre flight from one side of the river to the other, above the treetops, takes about 7.5 minutes and invites you to admire the breathtaking views: the city’s colourful panorama, the resort’s cloudless forests and the romantic bend of the Nemunas. Experience a wonderful ride on the only cable car in Lithuania!
M. K. Čiurlionis House - Museum
The Čiurlionis Family House, which became the M. K. Čiurlionis Memorial Museum in 1963, invites visitors to visit and get acquainted with the home of the parents of the most famous painter and composer of our nation. The exhibition consists of four buildings: two authentic Čiurlionis houses, a gallery and a cash desk. The museum is surrounded by a beautiful apple orchard, where you can meet a variety of birds, hear their songs and feel a real connection with nature, just as Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis did. Every summer, the museum hosts the “Summer of Piano Music” festival, which offers a wealth of musical discoveries and a unique atmosphere.
Doctors' Park
Gydyklų Park is an old town garden in the historic heart of Druskininkai. In the 19th century, it was the place where the whole life of the newcomers revolved: healing, entertainment, socialising. In the middle of the park, you will see a brothel whose windows are decorated with stained-glass windows based on the motifs of “Spruce – Queen of the Snakes” by artist Kazis Morkūnas. Inside the burette, you can drink mineral water, sit and admire the coloured light streaming through the stained glass windows and the fountain inside. After descending to the waterfront, you’ll come to the famous “Beauty Spring” – the saltiest and deepest spring in Druskininkai, with skin-cleansing and rejuvenating properties. Its water is also used in the “Druskininkai Spa“. It can be used as a wash, a gargle for sore throats and an effective anti-inflammatory, but it’s not to be drunk – it’s just too salty! The source of beauty is symbolically guarded by an arch of fairies (the sculpture “Fairies” by K.Pūdimas). The historical landmark of Gydylių Park is the river water level gauge from 1881.
Musical fountain
Lithuania’s most beautiful musical fountain is a popular gathering place and one of the most beautiful and visited places in the resort. During the warm season, the fountain delights with its colourful jets of water, a light, smoke and music show, dancing to a variety of musical pieces. You can request your favourite tune by texting a code, but the fountain’s performances are free of charge up to fourteen times a day: a random tune is played every hour, from the time the fountain is switched on at 10:00 to 23:00. We recommend coming to the fountain after dark: the dance of light, music and water will be particularly spectacular and vivid.
Wooden villas
As you wander through the resort’s streets, you’re sure to spot more than one beautiful wooden villa. Druskininkai, which came under Polish rule in the first half of the 20th century, was influenced by the Swiss style, and later wooden house builders adopted the architectural style of Zakopane. Today, most of these villas have been restored and continue to successfully decorate the resort and delight the eye of passers-by. But what’s even more fun is that some of them function as hotels and apartments for rent, so you can stay in them and be transported back in time.
