Tallinn, 8 July 2020 – FlixBus, a leading inter-city bus operator in Europe, announced its plans of development in the Baltic States. FlixBus’ long-term strategy is to create the strongest transportation option for long-distance bus travel between Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, connecting them to the biggest European network through Poland and Germany.

New connections that FlixBus announced will start from Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius and Kaunas, while end destinations include Warsaw and Berlin.

At an online press-conference, Michał Leman, the managing director of FlixBus Poland, Ukraine and Baltics, said:

I am very happy that after months of preparations and pandemic-related delays we can finally proceed with our plans for Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Moreover, we are grateful to be a part of the “Baltic bubble” where free travel resumed among the first in Europe. This is a result of responsible behavior by people in the Baltics, and we launch our new connections with that in mind to ensure a safe environment for our passengers.

In total, the offer for the start will consist of 19 destinations including Druskininkai. However, thanks to FlixBus’ comfortable interconnection system, passengers from the Baltic States will have easy access to over 100 destinations from Warsaw further to other Polish cities as well as to Western and Southern Europe.

First fully green lines from Baltics are starting on July 16th and for the start we are having special pricing for passengers travelling from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania – international connections begin at €4,99 added Michał Leman.

Innovative business model

FlixBus is both the largest intercity bus operator in Europe as well as an IT company. FlixBus’ technological platform handles ticketing, customer service and network planning. FlixBus also provides marketing and sales, while local partners are responsible for the operation of busses. In case of the Baltics, Lithuanian bus company Ollex was named as FlixBus’ primary transportation local partner to serve the newly opened lines. During 6 years of operation FlixBus built cooperation with over 300 bus partners all over Europe. One line will be operated by Polish partner, Zak Express, on the route from Berlin through Warsaw to Vilnius.

Although the buses belong to different local operators, FlixBus guarantees the same quality of service on every vehicle in the fleet. Passengers always get free Wi-Fi, comfortable seats with a lot of legroom, air-conditioning, power sockets and a restroom on board. Since 2013, green FlixBuses have already carried over 100 million customers across Europe and created hundreds of jobs in this area. FlixBus currently operates to 2500 destinations in 29 countries in Europe, Asia and North America.

Advanced health and safety procedures onboard

FlixBus has implemented a number of precautions and extended its internal regulations for passengers to reflect the best practices in hygiene. These include among others:

  • Obligation for passengers to cover their mouth and nose during check-in and ride (same applies to drivers);
  • Contact-less tickets and documents control at the boarding;
  • Obligation to disinfect hands by passengers when entering the vehicle (hand sanitizers provided by the carrier);
  • Boarding via the rear door only;
  • 2-meter spacing while boarding;
  • Professional, comprehensive disinfection of vehicles after each journey.

FlixBus asks all passengers to closely monitor their well-being and travel only while healthy. On top of aforementioned rules, travelers are obligated to observe local laws and preventive measures mandated in the country they are in. More info: for Estonia, for Latvia, for Lithuania, for Poland.
